The Feminine Mind

This week, a kind and loving woman that I know said, "Would you say you have a male mind? You are so logical!" Listen here. I can be smart and feminine. I am a strong, intelligent woman.  But here's the thing... I like to learn about things like this: And this: Do you know what absolutely excites my mind? This: And this: I love colors and calculus.  Twirling and thinking.  Circuits and creativity.  The odd thing is, men as a whole are welcoming to this idea. It's rare to for me to experience that form of discrimination (My favorite: "Electrical engineering? There aren't that many electronics in the kitchen..." Yeah, but there are plenty of knives.) Mostly, they at least act interested and supportive.  Women, though, have a different attitude. Not all, but a large majority say,  "Wow, you must be so smart!" No. Just diligent. Why God loves failure

Background: In the Latter-day Saint faith, we are given "callings". They are assignments from our leaders (who are themselves assigned by others). We do not receive any money for fulfilling these assignments, but they shape us into better Christians. My last assignment was 1st counselor in the Relief Society. I was basically the go-to helper for the lovely lady in charge of all the women in our congregation. I enjoy leadership callings. I grow and learn so much from them, and can feel the guidance of the Lord so often. </background> When I moved for my internship, I was placed in a new congregation and given a new calling. "Music committee member". Excitement doesn't begin to cover it. I love music. I love singing praises to my Lord and music in general. I put together a choir. My heart filled with excited!
